Backseat

I was told that I keep putting the human body in this position over and over and that's probably because it's like favorite food or wine, doesn't everyone have a thing that they keep eating or drinking over and over?

Don't know why but the "backseat" (as my good online friend calls it) always gives me the feeling of warmth and comfort and some strange elegance almost as if the body was supposed to be able to bend like this, and at the same it's probably one of the less expected things to see a human being doing and I must say it's something that surprises me every time I see it.

Sadly, contortion has always been a very fragile part of the world's culture, always surprising us while giving no rational explanation why people would want to sit on their own heads or do stuff like that in the first place, despite the practice of contorting being known for at least 7-8 millennia by now and enjoyed by everyone from kids to great emperors.

I've been a fan of this art for 20 years since the very childhood but I still find it strange that the art of painters, musicians, ballet dancers and even acrobats and gymnasts is considered beautiful by practically everybody, while so many consider the art of contortionists something freaky. I think it's because it's viewed as painful but isn't ballet or gymnastics just as painful, yet nobody seems to have a problem with that.

I must say that always made me feel ashamed for liking contortion, and at the same time I'm still unable to see a practical difference between contortion and, say, bellydance or ballet. I still just don't understand why most people would categorize contortion as a freak show, to me it's always been more like a beauty contest between all the magical poses the human body can take ^^

Ah well, so far I can only say I love contortion for some strange elegance and seeing the human body from a whole different angle... Maybe when I grow up more I'll be able to explain it better ^^
